Conservative congresswoman Gladis Aurora López was knocked to the ground and needed hospital treatment following the attack in broad daylight in the capital of Tegucigalpa

A politician was hit in the head by an explosive device in a shock attack outside parliament in Honduras.

Gladis Aurora López was rushed to hospital after the homemade bomb struck her during chaos on the streets of the capital, Tegucigalpa. The conservative congresswoman collapsed to the ground as the blast shredded her jacket.

Medics later confirmed that the injuries sustained by Ms López – a member of the National Party of president-elect Nasry Asfura – were not life-threatening. The terrifying attack comes as political tensions are boiling over following Honduras’ bitterly disputed election in November.

Tomás Zambrano, head of the National Party’s delegation in Congress, pointed the finger at rivals Libre, accusing the outgoing Liberty and Refoundation Party of being behind the assault.

He branded the incident “an attack against the National Party” as MPs met to debate a Libre demand for an election recount, despite officials already declaring a winner. Libre has refused to accept the result of the November 30 vote, which the National Electoral Council confirmed last month handed a narrow victory to Mr Asfura.

Chilling security footage shows the device being thrown from the street outside the building, with the suspect appearing to be accompanied by another man. Cops have since launched a manhunt and say those responsible are still on the run.

Elsewhere in Honduras, a social media influencer broadcast the shocking moment an alleged thief tried to break into his house during a livestream before he wrestled the crook to ground leaving him tied up for the cops.

Lester Cardona, better known as Supremo, thwarted an absurd robbery while livestreaming with fans on TikTok on Monday. The dad-of-one was enraged as he continued to livestream the shocking moment to his fans.

Supremo – a singer, songwriter and comedian who found fame on TikTok where he has garnered more than three million followers – heard his house alarm going, off spurring him to investigate.

After chasing down the alleged crook Cardona was confronted by a 17-year-old who had been persistently harassing the singer, the influencer claimed. When caught, the teen attempted to flee his crime scene.

Cardona continued livestreaming the event and has since claimed the teen had been spying on him. The 31-year-old posted images to TikTok fans and Instagram of the teen sitting in a ball, tied up and in the back of an open police pick-up truck.

He alluded to the fact the teen was suspected to have robbed from him over eight times. The signer certainly made an example of anyone attempting the same.

The influencer said he has a multitude of CCTV images of the apparent culprit stealing from his home in San Pedro Sula on multiple occasions and the total stolen amount adds up to a staggering £3,344 on top of cash, clothes and shoes.
