Matthew Hydman made the Traitors a jaw-dropping offer in a never-done-before twist on the BBC show and fans have been left wondering if he’s connected to Stephen Libby
The Traitors fans are convinced Matthew Hyndman is secretly linked to co-star Stephen Libby.
During Friday’s (January 10) episode of the hit BBC show, Matthew tried to make a sneaky deal with Traitors Stephen and Rachel Duffy.
The Faithful got the chance to speak to the Traitors through a wall without knowing it was them.
During a tense meeting, he tried to convince Stephen and Rachel to bump off Jessie Stride and then recruit him.
Matthew said: “I’m taking a massive risk here. I want to know that there is some trust. I suspect Claudia [Winkleman] will offer you the opportunity to seduce the next time you meet. I want you to turn that down and I want you to murder Jessie.
“And then the next time you seduce, you can seduce me. So my question is, do we have a deal?”
Fans will have to wait until the next episode to see if Stephen and Rachel agree to do what he’s asked but some viewers are suspecting that Stephen and Matt could be plotting to take Rachel down.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: “”Theory Stephen is Matt’s fiance. Stephen has secretly signalled that he is a traitor. Stephen and Rachel seduce Matt ditch Rachel and claim the win.”
A second person said: “I think Matty is Stephen’s partner. If he becomes a traitor they could go all the way #TheTraitors.”
A third added: “There is a reason for the fianly tree picture, most are connected – Stephen and Matt are probably connected in someway #TheTraitors.”
However, Stephen is actually dating actor and artist Daniel Quirke and the pair have flooded their social media profiles with cosy snaps from sun-soaked holidays in Vietnam and wild safaris in South Africa.

Before the series started, Matthew admitted he is ready to make tough decisions to win the prize money.
He said: “It’s a game, so there’s no limit. I can’t express this enough because I am quite moral and I want to do the right thing, but this is a game, and so the moral dilemma that I see people face, I don’t quite get because there’s no morality in this at all. We all know that we’re entering a game.”
“I couldn’t be more competitive. I play lots of board games and sports. I love Settlers of Catan, and I’ve been playing a game called Dominion recently with friends.”
Faithful Harriet Tyce will get to talk to the Traitors when the show returns next week but what will she have to say the mystery players?
The Traitors returns Wednesday, January 14 at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
