A man was shot dead by police after allegedly breaking into a home with a chainsaw and knife, stabbing a woman, and carjacking multiple vehicles in New South Wales
A man has been gunned down by police following a terrifying spree that saw a woman stabbed and the suspect allegedly smash into multiple homes before stealing a car.
The man reportedly burst into the woman’s residence wielding a chainsaw and blade on Friday morning, February 6, reports the Mirror..
A critical incident probe is now underway after the shocking chain of events erupted in the early hours across New South Wales in Australia.
Officers were scrambled to a property on Heath Avenue, Tuncurry, just over three hours from Sydney, following reports of the break-in.
En route to the scene, police were informed that a woman had been knifed and a man had fled from the premises in a white four-wheel drive.
At the residence, officers discovered a 28 year old woman suffering severe injuries.
She received treatment from NSW Ambulance medics before being helicoptered to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable state. Police clocked the four-wheel drive [4WD] motor moments later on nearby Stewart Parade and launched a chase.
During the pursuit, the vehicle through a sports ground before allegedly smashing on the Forster Bridge, according to police. Officers raced to the bridge and found the 4WD but were informed the man had hijacked another motor which then rammed a police car. An officer suffered minor injuries.
The chase carried on to Idlewood Drive in Rainbow Flat where the man drove onto a property and barged into a house, still clutching a knife, before trying to nick another motor. He emerged from the house shortly after, leading to a confrontation with the police, during which officers deployed a taser in an effort to apprehend him.
However, he managed to flee to another property.
The taser was used several times before the armed man charged at an officer who then fired at him. Despite receiving immediate first aid from the officers, he was declared dead at the scene.
The deceased, yet to be formally identified, is thought to be 41-years-old.
A critical incident team from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad has been assigned to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation will be scrutinised by the Professional Standards Command and overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).
