Contestant Liz had the chance to play for a huge amount of money in the ITV quiz show
Viewers of The 1% Club witnessed a rare occurrence not previously seen on the programme after Saturday’s latest instalment of the popular quiz show saw one contestant abandon a substantial cash prize.
The beloved ITV gameshow was once again presented by sharp-witted comedian Lee Mack, 57.
The format features 100 participants tackling progressively challenging questions, seeking to identify the most brilliant 1% capable of solving the final puzzle within just 30 seconds.
As expected, it’s meant to begin simply enough, with 90% of the public anticipated to answer the opening question correctly, but the complexity soars towards the conclusion, leaving only elite quizzers and swift logical minds to attempt the ultimate 1% challenge for the chance to claim the top prize of up to £100,000.
Whilst home viewers found the initial rounds manageable, 40 participants withdrew after the opening four questions, reports the Mirror.
A significant number also utilised their pass, enabling them to contribute their £1,000 share to the prize fund whilst advancing to the subsequent round.
Although just two individuals chose to pocket £1,000 when offered the opportunity, the total prize money quickly reached £98,000. Ultimately, only one contestant progressed to the final question.
Nevertheless, Liz revealed to Lee that she’d experienced a premonition regarding her destiny. She explained: “I got to this point in my dream last night. I decided I wanted to take the £10,000 but something went wrong and I played the question but got it wrong.”
Previously, she informed the host that she required £10k to purchase a ticket for her husband to participate in the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
When asked if she was prepared to risk everything for the jackpot, she confessed: “I don’t know what to do” and sought the studio’s opinion. Lee promptly retorted: “We have never had anybody ask the studio that question before.”
In the end, she heeded her dream as a caution and left with £10,000. The 1% question was: “If you can roll six different numbers using one standard dice, how many different totals can you make by rolling three identical standard dice.”
Liz stated that she would have answered 102, which was incorrect. The correct answer was 16.
Viewers of the game show didn’t hesitate to share their opinions on social media. One individual posted: “Well played Liz. Respect for making the correct decision.”
Another chimed in: “This woman who had that dream must be psychic.” While another remarked: “She was so sweet.”
