Married at First Sight star hospitalised after suffering ‘agonising’ sex injury

The Married at First Sight star, who appeared on the Aussie matchmaking series last year, revealed to her fans she’d gotten a little too enthusiastic in the bedroom

A Married At First Sight star was hospitalised after a sex injury left her “in agony”.

TV bride Katie Johnstone appeared on the Aussie version of MAFS last year alongside controversial groom Tim Gromie. She uploaded a snap of herself lying on a hospital bed and revealed she’d injured herself as she’s been “too enthusiastic” in the bedroom after two years of celibacy.

Katie wrote: “I was in agony for several hours leading up to going into hospital. I usually tough things out (farmer’s daughter and all) but I was in so much pain that I was involuntarily hyperventilating and shaking.

“So many things raced through my mind… something along the lines of ‘I’m not dying, I’ll be fine’, ‘I don’t want to waste their time’ and ‘there are sicker people than me’.

“Now that’s passed it got me thinking how hard I can be on myself and how much work there is left to do to truly care for myself with gentleness. If I was as loving to myself as I am to others I wouldn’t have left it so long, I wouldn’t have had this narrative in my mind, I wouldn’t have felt so guilty and led with ‘sorry’ as I’m getting wheeled into the ED ward shaking with pain.”

Fans rushed to the comments to share their concern, leaving Katie no option but to explain exactly what had caused her hospital dash. Katie clarified: “Thanks beautiful people! Context for those lovely humans that reached out and commented, fear not! I’ve just been too ‘enthusiastic’ after almost 2 years of celibacy, forgot how ‘it’ works…”

And her followers couldn’t help but find it rather amusing. One fan asked: “Wait this was sex injury @itswildbykatie ??? Coz if so gal I am soooo proud of you!!”

A second laughed: “Hahaha nothing worse than going to the ER for that kind of issue. No wonder you were worried”. A third chimed in: “Oh my god I love this, sort of, for you! I hope it was worth the pain! X”

Katie reassured fans that she was on the mend as she ended her post by showing a picture of herself relaxing on a beach. She wrote: “There are always going to be situations in life that pressurise you just enough to reveal the work left to do on yourself.

“And what a reminder! Yep, sometimes we need to be reminded with pain (emotional, physical, etc). We get reminded that we need to be kind, gentle, nurturing, loving, strong, supportive and caring with ourselves first, so that it genuinely spills over to others. You can’t pour from an empty cup…”

MAFS viewers were fuming at school teacher Tim when he said Katie was nothing like he “would have wanted” when he came face to face with her at their wedding. Things went from bad to worse for the couple, with Katie arriving solo to their new joint apartment.

Katie tried her best to rescue their marriage during their honeymoon, but Tim wasn’t keen. At the dinner party, he told his co-star that he had been “making the most effort” in the marriage, leaving Katie gobsmacked.

Tim was confronted by the group over his behaviour and he stormed out of the dinner party early. A heartbroken Katie was gobsmacked when she viewed her husband’s audition tape, which showcased a stark contrast between Tim’s words and his behaviour towards her.

In the video, Tim said he wanted “typical happy ending” and to be with a “natural person”. He also claimed he would “give it a go” with someone, regardless of whether or not he felt an initial spark.

Katie fumed: “That was full of lies. That was just complete and utter bull****. He’s got some answering to do,” before she flung her wedding ring across the table. They both chose to leave the experience at the first commitment ceremony.
