Police have confirmed that they have identified the suspect involved in the mass shooting at a school after the person was found dead with self-inflicted wounds
At least 10 people have died and 25 other injured in a mass shooting at a secondary school.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) entered the school in Tumbler Ridge, situated at the foothills of the Rockies in British Columbia, following the mass shooting on Tuesday, February 10. A second location has been identified, at which two people have been confirmed dead.
A suspect has also been confirmed dead with what is believed to be self-inflicted injuries.
Police have said that they believe they have identified shooter, but have not released the details for privacy reasons and to protect the integrity of their investigation, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported.
Police have not confirmed whether the suspect is an adult or a minor.
Police initially described the suspect as a female in a dress with brown hair, local news outlet CJDC-TV News reported.
“The original suspect is believed to have been located deceased. Work continues to determine whether a second suspect was involved and the total number of victims involved,” said Staff Sergeant Kris Clark.
The possibility of another suspect is being looked into.
The RCMP issued an emergency alert for residents of Tumbler Ridge and its surrounds earlier in the day. Residents were advised to stay inside and shelter in place, lock their doors and refrain from leaving their home or business.
Two individuals have been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after the incident, a local news outlet reported.
