Devastated Ant McPartlin flew out of the UK hours after losing his beloved chocolate labrador Hurley, who helped him through rehab and addiction

A heartbroken Ant McPartlin hastily left the UK to privately mourn the loss of his cherished pet dog, Hurley.

The presenter was left devastated by the passing of his 12 year old chocolate labrador. An insider revealed to the Sun that Ant was “in bits” and found it too painful to be around Hurley’s belongings at home. They further shared: “He’s inconsolable. He absolutely adored Hurley and, naturally, he’s devastated.

“It came as a massive shock to everyone. Hurley has been a part of his life for 12 years, so to lose him like this is crushing. He said he couldn’t be around Hurley’s things as he grieved.”

Ant, who turned 50 last year, had previously praised Hurley for providing much-needed support during his battle with alcohol and drug addiction in 2019.

His faithful companion was even granted special permission to visit him whilst he was in rehab.

Ant was attending the launch of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent alongside his television partner Dec Donnelly, also 50, when he received the distressing news about Hurley’s health on Thursday. The hound, who was shared between Ant and his former spose Lisa Armstrong, was understood to have been too poorly to recover.

Yesterday Lisa – who frequently shared photos of Hurley on her Instagram account – posted an image depicting a youngster releasing hearts into the heavens, reports the Mirror.

The I’m A Celebrity presenter previously told The Sun: “There’s a loyalty and a love and a companionship with Hurley that you can’t describe. And he never tells me off and is always pleased to see me.”

He also recounted how a woman approached them after recognising Hurley from newspaper photographs, joking that the dog had achieved fame.

The pup did indeed enjoy a modest entertainment career – initially through his role in his famous parents’ highly-publicised split, and subsequently during a guest spot on Steph’s Packed Lunch when Lisa brought him onto the programme for a feature about canine beverages.
