Harry Styles has admitted that he felt ‘very alone’ when he first performed solo post One-Direction break-up and shares fears that he would disappoint the band’s loyal followers

He’s now a huge international solo star but Harry Styles has confessed to struggling to adjust following One Direction’s break-up back in 2015. The Watermelon Sugar singer rebranded himself as a soloist in 2017 with the release of his debut self-titled album and year-long world tour.

Whilst it may seem like Harry took to life in the spotlight like a duck to water he’s revealed that he felt extremely lonely and exposed when on stage without his bandmates Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and the late Liam Payne.

Harry told The Sunday Times Magazine: “When you’re in a band with four other people, there’s so much room to hide.

“There’s only ever so much weight that’s on your shoulders. The first couple of times on stage [without One Direction], I’d think, ‘What do I do with my hands?’ ”

“But I also felt very alone all of a sudden.

“I was lucky to have the opportunity where people were interested in what I was going to make, but I put a lot of that pressure on myself, wanting it to be correct.”

With the debut LP Harry admitted that he wanted to experiment more but feared that it would be too much of a jump for the band’s die-hard fans.

“With that first album, I was trying to explore what music I would make by myself, but in that moment I felt there were a lot of people who had put faith in me and I didn’t want to disappoint people or let them down.”

What followed from that album was a groundbreaking solo career – He’s set to make history with a 12-night residency at London’s Wembley Stadium this Summer.

However he admitted that after his last album Harry’s House in 2022 he had the realisation that he needed to step away from the spotlight a little and have a better life/work balance.

“At the end of the tour, the idea of taking time out felt insane.

“I didn’t know if I could do it. But it was time for me to stop for a bit and pay some attention to other parts of my life.”

Harry will release his fourth solo studio album, Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally, on March 6.
