Pawtucket ice hockey shooting: Killer dad gunned down ex-wife and own son

Police said there was no forewarning for the hellscape that unfolded on Monday at a youth hockey game

The shooter behind the horror gun attack that has left three dead at an youth ice hockey game killed their ex-wife and son in the process, police have confirmed on Wednesday (Febuary 18).

Authorities have named the gunman as 56-year-old Robert Dorgan, who carried out the attack during a game in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA on the afternoon of Monday, February 16.Pawtucket Chief of Police Tina Goncalves said the victims were the shooter’s ex-wife Rhonda Dorgan and adult son Aidan Dorgan. Three others were also injured in the spray of bullets: the parents of the shooter’s ex-wife and a family friend, the police chief added.Police confirmed that Dorgan is now also dead, due to an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Ms Goncalves said there was “no indication” there had been no hint that violence would break out at the Pawtucket ice rink on Monday (February 16), adding that Dorgan had been to many hockey games before without incident.Dorgan did not appear to have had any conversation or confrontation with his relatives before unleashing horror upon the rink.The update comes following the first images of Dorgan were released in the wake of the ice hockey horror.At the time of the incident, the venue was hosting games for several local schools. A livestream of one match captured the terrifying moment when spectators and players hit the deck and sought cover as shots echoed through the arena.

Footage circulating online shows players scrambling out of the penalty box, discarding their skates, vaulting over the rink’s barrier and sprinting towards the changing rooms.Among the victims is a young girl, with investigators suggesting earlier that the shooting was targeted and “that may be a family dispute”.Reports indicate that Dorgan was the father of a senior student at North Providence High School.
