Expat Pete Jackson, 54, vanished after discharging himself from the IMED Levante Hospital – his devastated wife issued an update revealing that his body had been found

A Brit has died at a hospital in Benidorm after he became trapped between a patio wall and a metal platform.

Pete Jackson, 54, is understood to have suffocated “upside down” with no way of escaping after getting wedged in a gap filled with electrical cables while trying to retrieve some of his belongings. The expat disappeared after discharging himself from IMED Levante Hospital in the Spanish city on the morning of February 7.

A frantic search for Pete was launched, with a missing poster stating: “Pete was last seen leaving IMED Levante Hospital in Benidorm heading for home. We are yet to ascertain from police which direction he went on leaving the hospital.”

It added: “This is completely out of character for Peter and he has never been without contact with his family,” and noted he had been, “quite frail and disorientated.”

Last week, his devastated wife, Shirley Ebbs, revealed that his body had been discovered. In a heartbreaking Facebook post, she said: “It is with a heavy heart that I share an update on Pete Jackson. Pete has been located, but unfortunately, he has been found deceased.”

A friend later added: “Shirley Ebbs wants to thank everyone who helped in the search and offered support during this incredibly difficult time. Please keep Pete Jackson’s family in your thoughts and respect their privacy right now.”

It is understood that Pete had lived and worked in Benidorm for nearly three years and was a well-liked figure in the local community.

His loved ones paid tribute to him as a friendly and cheerful man who lived a quiet life on the Costa Blanca and was fully devoted to his pals and family, according to local reports.

The news comes after a British dad died earlier this month while on holiday in nearby Costa del Sol. The 37-year-old dad-of-two was staying at a hotel in the popular resort of Torremolinos, with his partner and kids.

He is believed to have fallen from the sixth balcony as his family were sleeping in the room. Emergency responders rushed to the hotel after receiving multiple 999 calls.

However, despite their best efforts, they were unable to save the holidaymaker and he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s partner is said to have told cops that he had stayed on the balcony alone after they had enjoyed a few drinks together. She then went to bed and believes he then accidentally fell to his death.
