- Dual nationals are being forced to fork out nearly £700 or consider ditching their British citizenship under brutal new travel rules.
- Brits with two passports must now travel to the UK on their British passport – but many never bothered getting one in the first place. Getting sorted could cost a whopping £689 between passport fees (£100) and a certificate of entitlement (£589).
- The new rules are part of beefed-up border security measures. But experts reckon it could put people off becoming British citizens, especially business types who want things simple and cheap.
- A DeVere Group spokesperson, who advise Brits living abroad, warned punters are already thinking about binning their citizenship. “A small but growing number are considering whether maintaining British citizenship continues to make sense for them,” they said.
- The policy has sparked fury from campaign groups supporting EU citizens. “The Home Office has not done enough to warn dual nationals of the serious impact this will have on them,” slammed the head of policy at the3million.
- The Home Office hit back, insisting they’ve been banging on about the changes since 2023.
