Manchester United squandered a lead twice on the south coast as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Bournemouth, with Harry Maguire receiving a red card in a thrilling second half. The first half, despite being goalless, was an engaging affair with United frequently threatening. Bruno Fernandes came closest when his volley was expertly saved by Djordje Petrovic.

Fernandes was clinical in the second half, however. Matheus Cunha earned a penalty, and the captain coolly sent Petrovic the wrong way from the spot. But United’s advantage was short-lived. United felt they had a strong case for another penalty when Amad was pushed over, but Bournemouth swiftly countered, with Ryan Christie delivering a skilled finish from 16 yards.

However, United swiftly responded, as James Hill got the decisive touch on Fernandes’ corner. But the drama didn’t end there. A fourth goal within 20 minutes arrived when Harry Maguire was given a red card for a foul on Evanilson, and Junior Kroupi scored the resulting penalty.

Senne Lammens, 7 – Produced some sharp saves with minimal fuss and played it safe with his distribution. Showed confidence when Bournemouth delivered the ball into the box, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Diogo Dalot, 6 – Had a mixed performance, hitting the stand’s roof with a shot in the first half and making a poor pass that put his team in trouble, but also made some good runs forward.

Leny Yoro, 7 – Demonstrated good reading of the game as Bournemouth strung together passes around the edge of the box and continues to grow in confidence in the back four.

Harry Maguire, 5 – Had a solid game until the red card, which he might consider harsh. United may feel it was similar to the denied penalty on Amad, but he was beaten by Evanilson.
