Ana Parra met her half-brother Daniel for the first time and fell in love instantly. The Spanish couple now have two children and are fighting to change marriage laws

Ana Parra was 20 when she first met her estranged half-brother, Daniel Parra – but the chemistry was immediate.

Now the Spanish pair, who have welcomed two children together, are campaigning to reform the law so they can wed legally.

Ana had always been aware she had a half-brother somewhere out there.

As a youngster, she knew her father had left her to be with another woman, fathering children with his new partner.

Daniel was one of those children, and he said: “Someone had told me that maybe I had a sister out there, but my father never told me, it was something he wanted to hide.”, reports the Mirror.

Eager to meet her sibling, Ana hunted Daniel down on Facebook and suggested they get together.

They claim it was love at first sight.

“We didn’t want to realise it,” Ana explained, “we were angry with ourselves because it was hard to admit and break that taboo – we are siblings even though we didn’t feel that way.”

Their initial kiss happened at a party.

She said: “We were partying, we approached each other slowly and gave each other our first kiss.”

Ana recalled feeling “ashamed” of what transpired, but Daniel described the moment as life-changing: “That kiss broke all barriers, marked a before and after, it was like a reality check.”

Several days later, they organised another meeting, though both were hesitant to acknowledge their romantic feelings.

Daniel said: “Imagine liking a girl and, for a moral reason, being forbidden to be with her. It’s really hard to deal with.”

It was only during a trip to London, where the pair felt they could behave as a couple without facing judgement, that they chose to reveal their relationship publicly.

Ana said: “That was the first time we can say that we behaved, in public, like a real couple. We went out to dinner, we took walks. It was like an explosion of freedom.”

In a bold move, the couple opted to share their story on television, with Anna explaining: “We didn’t feel like telling everyone our story one by one, so that’s why we decided to tell it this way.”

However, they faced a barrage of online hatred regarding their forbidden romance. “There are people who have written to us on social media telling us that we’re going to burn in hell,” Ana revealed.

This backlash hasn’t stopped the sibling pair, who now have two children together. Both youngsters are “perfectly healthy”, they claim, despite the increased risk of genetic disorders when parents share DNA.

Whilst consensual incest isn’t illegal in Spain, the country’s Civil Code prevents relatives from tying the knot.

Daniel and Ana are campaigning to overturn this restriction and dream of one day walking down the aisle together.

“Societies must advance and not cling to traditionalism,” Ana proclaimed. “Homosexuals were also not allowed to marry and now they can.

“We love each other and that is what should prevail. We are not harming anyone. That is why we want people to know our story.”
