A father has been named as the suspected shooter at an ice hockey match that left two dead and three in critical condition as attack believed to be part of “family dispute”

The alleged gunman who killed two people and critically injured three others at school ice hockey match has been identified by police.

The force have named the suspected shooter as Robert Dorgan and revealed they also went by a female name. Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said that Dorgan, 56, also uses the alias Roberta Esposito.

News outlet WPRI report that Dorgan is the father of a North Providence High School senior hence their attendance at the tournament at Lynch Arena, Rhode Island.

“We have identified the person, the suspect, by a birth name, the birth name was Robert Dorgan,” Goncalves said.

“We have also learned that the person does go by the name of Roberta, also uses a last name of Esposito.”

The shooting took place on Monday, February 16 at around 2.30pm and has left two people dead with a further three in a critical condition.

According to reports Dorgan sat near the back of the home supporter stands during the game before he moved to the front and opened fire at four family members and one family friend.

It is believed that Dorgan’s son’s mother was killed inside Lynch Arena, and a little girl also died.

Multiple sources told the outlet that Dorgan’s son’s mother was killed inside Lynch Arena, and a sibling died at the hospital.

Investigators said earlier it was a targeted shooting “that may be a family dispute.”

Police have said that Dorgan took their own life at the scene.

The arena was hosting matches for several local schools at the time of the horrific incident. A livestream of the hockey match captured the moment terrified spectators and players dove to the floor and took cover as 11 gunshots could be heard.

In distressing videos shared online players can be seen squeezing out of the box and ditching their skates with others jumping over the rink’s barrier and rushing to the changing room.

Three victims remain in critical condition.
