Chelsea ‘bewildered’ by baffling John Terry comments after ‘frustrated’ claims

John Terry was overlooked for a role on Chelsea’s coaching staff earlier this year, with the Blues icon left frustrated by the decision to appoint Calum McFarlane

Bosses a Premier League behemoths Chelsea are said to be “baffled” by claims levelled at them by ex-club captain John Terry. The former England defender went public earlier this week to claim that he was was left deflated after being overlooked for a position on Chelsea’s coaching team.

The Blues legend felt he warranted a temporary role within the Stamford Bridge setup before Liam Rosenior assumed control earlier this year. Prior to the former Fulham defender’s appointment, Chelsea hunted for an internal caretaker following their split with Enzo Maresca on January 1. Calum McFarlane, previous under-21 manager, oversaw the team for two fixtures.

Given his background with Chelsea’s youth setup, Terry felt somewhat let down, as peers advanced to the first-team technical area whilst he remained sidelined. McFarlane, who now forms part of Rosenior’s backroom team, possessed only a UEFA B Licence.

By comparison, Terry holds a UEFA Pro Licence, the pinnacle European credential, and has operated in a Premier League setting as assistant to Dean Smith at Aston Villa and at Leicester City. And Terry has been left in the dark regarding why he didn’t get the nod.

“(I wasn’t) annoyed,” Terry told Jimmy Bullard on his Golf Life YouTube channel. “Probably more frustrated because I was certainly part of that under-21s group that went over.

“So even if I didn’t take the team. Obviously, Calum took the team and did really well. Got a result out of the game. I feel like I should have been part of them.

“Now, listen. People have got to make decisions. I love it when people make decisions and they go yes or no. And clearly, ownership or whoever made those decisions, the sporting directors have gone “no”, not to include me for whatever reason – why, I don’t know.”

And now, according to the Telegraph, Chelsea bosses are reportedly “baffled” by the comments made by the club icon, although they have no cited exactly who made the claims.

They also reported at rival Premier League club sources are questioning why John Terry has gone on public record to essentially slate the team he’s still employed by as a coach two days a month.

However, no official comment has been made by the club.
