Bobby J. Brown has died at 62-years-old after being caught in a barn fire.
The Hollywood actor, who starred in the hit HBO series The Wire, died on Tuesday, February 24. Brown’s daughter confirmed the news of his passing to TMZ while the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner shared the cause of death was ruled as diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation.
The Washington born actor’s death was determined as an accident. The blaze started after Brown entered the barn to jump start a vehicle.
Moments later, the actor urged a family member to retrieve a fire extinguisher but by the time they returned to the barn it was engulfed in flames.
It is believed he did not suffer from the burns he sustained from the fire.
His agent, Albert Bramante, told TMZ, “I am upset and saddened. He was such a good actor and person. He was totally dedicated to the craft of acting and was a joy to work with.”
Following the news, several fans have paid tribute to the star. One said on X: “Sorry to see him go so young. I was just watching him on Homicide last night. RIP.”
Another added, “RIP! He was very good and had a strong presence in his brief scenes in We Own This City. Very believable as Bernthal’s character’s predecessor.”
“Tragic news…Rest in peace, Bobby J. Brown. Such a talented soul taken too soon,” a third said.
Another added, “Every time I see ‘Bobby Brown’ in a headline, my heart stops, but this is a tragedy for the acting world regardless. RIP Bobby J.”
Bobby took on his first role in 1998, playing Terry in the sixth season of Homicide: Life on the Street. He is most well known for his time on the 2002 drama series The Wire.
Other appearances include Pecker, We Own This City and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He was also due to appear in a mini-series titled The Sessions.
As well as appearing on screen, Bobby also directed several documentaries including Off the Chain and Tear the Roof Off- The Untold Story of Parliament Funkadelic.
Bobby was a devout Jehovah’s Witness. His family is planning a funeral service to celebrate his life and legacy.
