Keir Starmer is facing immense pressure to step down after it emerged Peter Mandelson failed a security check before he was appointed UK ambassador to the US. The Prime Minister said he is “furious” that he was not informed about the result of the vetting process.

The most senior civil servant in the Foreign Office, Olly Robbins, has left his post after the story emerged on Thursday. While Starmer claims not to have known the vetting process was overruled, many are claiming he lied to parliament when he said “due process was followed” in Mandelson’s appointment.

With Starmer’s future on everybody’s lips, the Daily Star turned to the mysterious world of Tarot cards to find an answer. Inbaal Honigman, celebrity psychic and Tarot car reader, warned the PM is unlikely to fall immediately.

She said via prediction market experts Casino.org: “The Tarot views Starmer’s chances to survive this scandal unfavourably, but the speed at which things move is slower than expected.

“The Labour leader’s future is expressed in the Ace of Swords Tarot card. This is a card of new beginnings, revelations, and secrets coming to light.

“He’d like to be as honest as possible, even if it costs him the big job. More facts will be uncovered over the next four weeks which could make things even worse.”

She added: “The fiery Knight of Wands card indicates a misstep when it comes to Starmer planning a resignation. Rather than going for a clear cut statement, he’ll release a confused and confusing message.

“He is upset and feels guilty, that much can be seen in the devastated 10 of Swords Tarot card. In terms of career survival, the dreamy Moon Tarot card jokes ‘dream on’.

“Starmer isn’t joining the dole queue yet, as the wealthy 10 of Pentacles Tarot card says that the current PM has enough contacts and avenues to keep him earning comfortably, but it won’t be in politics. Writing, advising and lecturing will be his future careers.

“A resignation is coming, but not immediately.”
