Jesy Nelson has revealed that her car has been stolen off of her driveway. The pop star has pleaded with her fans for help in locating the £100k vehicle, which is packed with hospital equipment for her young daughters.
The former Little Mix star revealed in January that her twins Ocean and Story had been diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). The devastating condition is progressive and weakens muscles over time.
Jesy’s nine-month old daughters have been diagnosed with Type 1, the most severe form. Those with Type 1 can have a life expectancy of less than two years without treatment.
Jesy took to Instagram and wrote: “My car got stolen off of my drive way in the early hours of this morning. If anyone sees a black defender Reg plate JJ73SSY please if any of you have seen or know of any information can you dm me or contact the police.
“I have so much of my girls hospital equipment in that car that’s really needed.” She added: “Was stolen in Brentwood Essex.”
Jesy has explained that she has decided to keep filming her Prime Video series despite being told her daughters may not live beyond the age of two. The singer wants to raise awareness for the condition and “make a change”.
She said in a Q&A: “I just hope people continue to watch the next part of the journey. When the girls got their diagnosis, we decided that we wanted to continue filming.
“As hard as it was, we were like, ‘You know what? There’s a reason you guys are here, and we’ve got to make the best out of this situation'”.
The pop star has been campaigning for SMA1 screening at birth by the NHS. Her petition last month surpassed 100,000 signatures, meaning MPs in the House of Commons will debate the issue.
She said of the breakthrough: “I cannot actually put into words how grateful I am that this moment has just happened right here! And it is all thanks to you guys.
“Thank you to every single person that took time out of their day to sign this petition. You have no idea how much this means to me and the SMA community. This is the first hurdle but we bloody did it and I truly believe that together we are going to make change!”
Jesy has split from her fiance Zion Foster, the father of her twins, in January. She explained that they are “sitill friends” who are “united in co-parenting our daughters”.
She said of the split: “We’re doing good, we’re doing good. It’s been tough. I’m not going to bulls**t you. It’s been really tough.
“And I think that’s understandable with everything that we’ve gone through. But we’re just cracking on and we’re getting on with it and our girls are our focus.”
