Five have survived screaming fans, chart wars and more comeback rumours than anyone can count and now the 90s icons are passing on their ultimate festival survival tips.
Ahead of hitting Download and Isle of Wight Festival this summer, the Everybody Get Up hitmakers shared the dos and don’ts of surviving muddy fields, hangovers and dreaded port-a-loo disasters. According to the lads, preparation is everything. Singer Ritchie Neville, 46, revealed his number one rule is arriving before things descend into total chaos, speaking exclusively to the Daily Star he warned: “Turn up in the daylight and pitch your tent.
“Also, don’t have more than two beers before you pitch your tent either.”
Frankly, words to live by…
Ritchie also advised festivalgoers to “always carry a torch” after a disastrous teenage trip to Glastonbury left him taking an accidental late-night swim.
He recalled: “I ran away to Glastonbury when I was 15 and we didn’t arrive till 11 o’clock at night. Just me and another 15-year-old pitching the tent in the pitch black, and then I decided I needed a wee.
“And I saw this hedge because I could see the lights behind it, so I thought, ‘I’ll just go up against this hedge’.
“I get about 15 feet away from the hedge I’m heading to… then I fall seven feet down into a river.”
The singer said he ended up stranded in the dark yelling for his mate to rescue him: “I’m stood there shouting, ‘Will! Will!’ And I can hear him gradually coming closer like, ‘Ritch? Ritch?’
“I go, ‘Mate, I can’t climb up the bank – you’re gonna have to get me up.”
But perhaps his most important piece of advice involved what he diplomatically called a “number two”.
Ritch chuckled: “Also, if you need a number two, don’t wait days before you go to the port-a-loos.”
A sentence that may haunt festival fans forever…
Bandmate Scott Robinson , 46, also urged people to “pace yourself” though he admitted nobody actually listens, and even his bandmates booed him when he said that one.
He laughed: “If you’re there for three days, pace yourself for at least the first five or six hours.”
Ritchie then immediately destroyed that advice by adding: “When you wake up in the morning, have a beer first thing.”
Balanced lifestyle choices
Scott also warned against pitching tents directly in the blazing sun, he said: “The last thing you want when you wake up after drinking at like seven or eight in the morning is the sun blazing through your tent.”
Instead, he recommends bringing a “sun hat, water, paracetamols and a hip flask with rum in it”.
Honestly, Glastonbury should probably print that on the tickets. For those looking to take festival drinking to elite levels, Scott revealed he’s desperate to get his hands on a very unusual invention.
He revealed: “There’s a jacket and you can fill it with beer and drink the beer through a straw in the jacket.
“I want one. That’s good.”
Meanwhile, Abz Love, 46, kept things surprisingly wholesome. He smiled: “The most important thing to bring to these festivals…Good vibes and a good attitude.”
Probably easier to pack than the beer jacket, to be fair.
