Brits are urged to check their accounts as a massive £100 windfall is set to land in millions of qualifying everyday bank accounts this June
Brits are being urged to check their bank accounts with millions of households set to receive a £100 bonus next month. Nationwide Building Society is dishing out a massive £440million windfall to more than four million customers.
The cash injection, dubbed the “Fairer Share” scheme, will land directly into the current accounts of eligible members between June 10 and the end of the month. Because Nationwide is a building society owned by its members rather than shareholders, it regularly splits its profits with the people who use its services.
It marks the fourth year in a row the lender has handed back cash, bringing the total returned to members to a whopping £1.5billion since 2023.
To nab the June payout, you need to have used Nationwide for your everyday banking, alongside holding a qualifying mortgage or savings account with them.
Nationwide’s chief executive Dame Debbie Crosbie said: “More people than ever are choosing Nationwide. Our growth in mortgages, retail deposits and personal current accounts is leading the market, which means we can again make a Fairer Share payment to eligible members, and offer a new member exclusive bond to all members.”
To get your hands on the money, the Express reports that you must have had an active, eligible Nationwide current account open on March 31, 2026.
In addition to the current account, you must have also held a qualifying savings account or mortgage with them by that same date.
For the savings criteria, you needed to have at least £100 tucked away in a Nationwide personal savings account or cash ISA on any single day during March 2026.
Alternatively, you could qualify on the property side if you owed at least £100 on a Nationwide residential mortgage as of March 31, 2026.
If you hit these requirements, the £100 will be put straight into your active Nationwide current account automatically.
Millions of other banking customers will completely miss out on the bonus. If you bank with Clydesdale Bank or hold a Virgin Money current account, you are barred from this year’s Fairer Share payout.
However, there is a glimmer of hope for the future as Virgin Money customers who have recently transitioned over to Nationwide following a corporate takeover could become eligible for future handouts.
A record-breaking one million new current accounts were set up with Nationwide last year alone, with 300,000 savvy switchers ditching rivals to join the building society in 2025.
But savers shouldn’t get too comfortable, as Nationwide warns that the lucrative £100 payment is not guaranteed every single year.
