Alan Carr’s life from famous dad to £3 million Celebrity Traitors style castle

Alan Carr is back on our screens after iconically winning Celebrity Traitors last year.

Alan Carr is no stranger when it comes to hit reality shows and now another is airing tonight.

Comedian, TV personality and Celebrity Traitors winner Alan Carr returns this evening for Interior Design Masters on BBC One, challenging designers to reimagine spaces in a bid to win and launch their own homewares range.

With Carr once again back on our screens, fans are curious to know all there is about the 49-year-old star from Northampton.

Who is Alan Carr’s dad

While Carr was born in Weymouth, Dorset, he spent most of his childhood growing up in Northampton because his father Graham Carr was the manager of the Northampton Town Football Club.

Graham played football for clubs like Northampton Town, York City, Weymouth and Dartford before he transitioned into becoming a manager, most notably for Northampton Town in the 1980s.

He managed other clubs like Blackpool and Maidstone United, as well as worked as the chief scout for Newcastle United in 2010.

Carr previously told The Mirror: “Growing up, I think a lot of gay men have odd relationships with their dad.

“My dad was the best dad in the world, but I was like an alien in the house.

“I do feel bad because when I started out in stand-up, I talked about dad in my act.

“My dad’s not an a*******; he’s just an 80s northern football manager who wanted his son to play football.”

Is Alan Carr in a relationship?

Alan Carr was previously in a 13-year relationship with comedian Paul Drayton and married in a Los Angeles ceremony officiated by singer Adele in 2018.

They separated in January 2022 and have since divorced and it was the following year that Carr began dating hairdresser Callum Heslop who was 20 years his junior.

Their relationship ultimately ended last year and the comic has now said he’s sworn off love.

In an interview with The Telegraph, he said: “I’ve got no more romance in me. I’ve had enough. Done at 50. That’s it.

“No more sex. Shop’s closed, gone. I might as well chemically castrate myself.”

Ahead of his 50th birthday next month, Carr has purchased 17-bedroom Ayton Castle in the Scottish Borders for £3.25 million, according to the BBC.

He joked: “Some men when they have a midlife crisis buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me – I want my very own castle.”

Carr reportedly purchased the extravagant property which will be at the heart of his upcoming Disney Plus reality show Castle Man which will see him redecorate his new home.

The series, which is currently being filmed, is being made by the same production company behind Prime Video’s Clarkson’s Farm;.

Alan Carr and Amanda Holden’s friendship

Carr and Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden met at a charity event around 20 years ago when they were presenting an award together.

Since then, their bond has only grown both in front and behind the cameras with the pair hosting their own travel show Amanda and Alan’s Greek Job last year.

She first appeared on his talk show Chatty Man in 2009 and subsequently went on to feature seven more times during the show’s run.

They believed their connection was so strong that they might be related and took to ITV ’s DNA Journey in 2021 to find out.

Unfortunately, there was no blood relation discovered but she did sweetly say: “There’s no connection between us except that we love each other”.
