Eight fire engines and 60 firefighters are battling a blaze tonight (Saturday) after a nursery went on fire in Lewisham.
The three-story Rushey Green Nursery appears to be well alight in videos posted to social media. London Fire Brigade (LFB) said at 7:40pm it has dispatched eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters to the scene.
Councillor James Walsh posted a video of the incident, saying: “There is an active fire incident on Rushey Green at The Rushey Green Nursery. Please amend your journeys and expect delays.”
A statement from LFB said: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters have been called to a fire on Rushey Green in Lewisham.
“Firefighters are tackling a fire at a three-storey nursery where part of the roof is alight.”
“The Brigade’s Control Office took the first of 17 calls at 1837 and mobilised fire crews from Bromley, East Greenwich, Peckham and other surrounding fire stations to the scene.
“The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.”
