It is being shown on Channel 4 tonight and has been hailed as ‘one of the best movies’ with an ‘iconic scene’

A military drama featuring a legendary courtroom showdown has been hailed by cinema enthusiasts as ‘one of the greatest films ever made’, and it’s screening on Channel 4 this evening.

A Few Good Men, which hit cinemas in 1992, centres on Lt. Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise), a military barrister defending two U.S. Marines accused of murdering a colleague at Guantánamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba.

Whilst Kaffee typically favours plea deals, fellow solicitor Lt. Cdr. JoAnne Galloway (Demi Moore) persuades him that the defendants were probably following orders from a superior officer. Kaffee gambles by summoning Col. Nathan R. Jessep (Jack Nicholson) to testify in a bid to expose the cover-up.

Despite being more than three decades old, the picture continues to be celebrated as ‘a masterclass in acting’ thanks to its stellar ensemble cast.

One fan wrote on Rotten Tomatoes: “What a film, absolutely a masterclass in acting, story. Just finished the movie for the first time, and let there be no doubt, it shall not be the last.”, reports the Mirror.

Another viewer said: “A Few Good Men is a solid courtroom drama with great performances, but the best part is the intense face-off between Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson-Nicholson gives the best performance of the film, and he and Cruise have great chemistry. When he yells, “You can’t handle the truth!” it hits hard and totally owns the whole movie.

“One of the best movies from that era. Has improved over time. You can’t say that about very many films, Great cast. Great acting and direction. Great writing. Never gets old,” declared a third viewer.

A fourth added: “This might be Tom Cruises best performance and it’s definitely the best court drama in a movie. There isn’t a single problem or flaw with this film that I can see.”

Others highlighted one particular sequence, with one enthusiast writing: “You can safely call “A Few Good Men” a true classic movie. It’s a very memorable movie because of great performances, very solid script, and some unforgettable speeches and quotes (with “You can’t handle the truth” coming first in to the mind when remembering this picture).

“It’s has interesting story and basically it’s a court room and procedure drama. What standout here and makes this movie some sort of classic are great performances by probably all involved (especially by leads), some terrific lines and scenes.

“Not everything here works, but it’s a solid movie. Screenplay by the great Aaron Sorkin is excellent, which was based on his play. Overall, 8/10 for “A Few Good Men”. If you haven’t seen it, you can safely check this one out – it’s a memorable film.”

Another viewer echoed these sentiments, saying: “One of my all times favourites I could watch again and again… and have done. The build up to the unforgettable iconic courtroom scene… “You can’t handle the truth” is one of the greatest. Nicholson is superb.”

A third said: “A few good men is one of my favourite films. The whole movie is a slow crescendo to the court room scene. It has great characters, outstanding plot, and tremendous writing. Tom Cruise is outstanding but Jack Nicholson owns this movie. 10/10.”

A Few Good Men airs on Saturday 10 January on Channel 4 at 10.35pm.
