The Great British public are desperate for a new more romantic leader after Keir Starmer failed to deliver a full-throated rebuke to the never-ending menace that is Donald Trump

Keir Starmer’s lacklustre response to Donald Trump’s tariff threat has left Brits yearning for new more charming PM – Hugh Grant from Love Actually. The US President threatened to hit the UK and other European countries with a 10% tariff “on any and all goods” sent to the US from February 1 if they fail to support his takeover of Greenland.

Trump has been eyeing up the massive arctic territory of Denmark since his second inauguration. The Orange Manbaby wants Greenland for “national security reasons” despite US military bases already in operation.

Greenland and Denmark refused to sell the territory so Trump has been threatening annexation and invasions against a NATO ally. The most recent threat is a 10% tariff on all European nations which fail to support his takeover.

In response, Keir Starmer told the nation a trade war is “not the right way to resolve differences within an alliance” as he insisted he would stand up for the UK’s “national interests”.

The Prime Minister told a Downing Street press conference the “right way to approach an issue of this seriousness is through calm discussion between allies”.

Starmer said: “Any decision about the future status of Greenland belongs to the people of Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark alone. That right is fundamental.

“The use of tariffs against allies is completely wrong. It is not the right way to resolve differences within an alliance, nor is it helpful to frame efforts to strengthen Greenland security as a justification for economic pressure.”

Despite Starmer’s significant shift on tone towards Trump, many Brits took to social media to express their desire for a more romantic PM. They specifically asked for the help of Hugh Grant’s Prime Minister character in Love Actually, who doesn’t have a name, actually.

In the popular Christmas Rom Com, Grant stands up to the “bullying” and quite creepy US president played by Billy Bob Thornton at a Downing Street press conference. His resilient speech read: “I love that word ‘relationship’.

“Covers all manner of sins, doesn’t it? I fear that this has become a bad relationship. A relationship based on the President taking exactly what he wants and casually ignoring all those things that really matter to, erm… Britain.

“We may be a small country but we’re a great one, too. The country of Shakespeare, Churchill, the Beatles, Sean Connery, Harry Potter.

“David Beckham’s right foot. David Beckham’s left foot, come to that. And a friend who bullies us is no longer a friend.

“And since bullies only respond to strength, from now onward, I will be prepared to be much stronger. And the President should be prepared for that.”

Maybe Starmer could have learned something from Hugh?
