Manchester United scouts have reportedly been watching Club Brugge midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic and Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemovic ahead of the transfer deadline

Manchester United return to Premier League action today, while also keeping tabs on potential transfer dealings that could be wrapped up. It’s been a subdued month for United in the transfer market, with no fresh signings arriving at Old Trafford at the time of writing.

Whether that situation will alter before Monday’s deadline remains unclear, with United running short on time to bolster their squad for the campaign’s second half, should they choose to do so.

Michael Carrick has made a brilliant start as United’s interim head coach, securing victories in his first two games against Manchester City and Arsenal.

United welcome Fulham to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday, and will be eager to claim maximum points in their last fixture before the transfer window closes, reports the Mirror.

Here, the Daily Star examines some of the latest United transfer speculation and rumours that have made headlines in the past 24 hours.

Club Brugge star ‘scouted’

United are reportedly showing interest in securing Club Brugge star Aleksandar Stankovic during the closing stages of the January transfer window.

Journalist Matteo Moretto revealed on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel that United have been sending scouts to monitor Stankovic’s performances for Brugge, though they’ll face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the midfielder. Inter Milan have also been linked with a move for Stankovic, despite the player only departing the Serie A club last summer.

Reports suggest that Inter retain the option to bring the 20-year-old back in the summer.

Stankovic is believed to be worth approximately £20million (€23million) this summer, though it’s unclear whether United’s rumoured interest will develop into anything concrete at this stage.

United ‘monitor’ Serie A defender

United have reportedly been tracking Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemovic throughout the January transfer window.

Bosnian outlet SportSport has reported that United have been dispatching scouts to observe Muharemovic in action and have been pleased with what they’ve witnessed.

The report further suggests that United representatives were present to watch Muharemovic feature for Sassuolo in their Serie A encounter against Pisa on Saturday afternoon.

The 22-year-old completed the entire 90 minutes in the match against Pisa as Sassuolo secured a 3-1 triumph to climb to ninth position in the Italian top flight.
