Benidorm’s cheapest pint exposed as beer for just 43p found at legendary bar

As the cost-of-living crisis continues to bludgeon British wallets, many will have given up on the idea of taking a holiday but it can be done on the cheap in Benidorm

Benidorm is selling pints for just 43p. The holiday hotspot, which sees hundreds of thousands of Brits visit each year, is famous for its cheap drink and lively bars.

But its boozers, which were already selling tipples at just €1 (86p), are now flogging drinks at even lower prices to thirsty tourists. It comes as the Spanish seaside resort gears up for Cheltenham Festival next month and a bumper summer.

Tipples are now being sold at bargain-basement prices at the legendary Uncle Ron’s pub in the Costa Blanca city. The pub was selling pints of Estrella lager or a large wine this week for just 50 cents – or 43p.

Musician Mark Sebastian D’Lacey, who performs in the popular Bon Jovi tribute act Bon Jersey, said: “The rumours are all true about Uncle Ron’s. It’s 50 cents for a pint or a large wine.”

The pub, which is renowned for its ‘belly buster’ breakfast challenge which sees diners try to polish off a huge 2,760-calorie dish, usually sells pints for just €1 year-round, with a neon sign outside the front confirming the offer.

And it’s not the only bar offering cut-price alcohol either, with others offering two pints of Amstel for just €3.50 (£3) and five bottles of Sol beer for €10 (£8.70).

The offer was discovered after Wetherspoon declared its intention to go global as it launched its first pub outside Britain and Ireland this week.

It comes as the famous resort is gearing up for its wildest year yet due to the Cheltenham Festival and the World Cup. Bar owners are preparing themselves for utter mayhem when hordes of beer-drenched holidaymakers jet out to soak up the festivities in the sun.

The iconic holiday hotspot has been soaring in popularity over the last few years, with huge numbers of racing fans heading there for Cheltenham in March. Pub staff now reckon it’ll be the “maddest” season yet as football supporters also flock there to watch the summer tournament.

The Castell de Santa Barbera in nearby Alicante Airport, used by Brits holidaying in Benidorm, welcomed its first customers on Monday. It serves up all the Spoons classic meals along with a range of drinks, so that gloomy Brits returning home have reasons to be cheerful by being reminded of what’s waiting for them back at home.
