Sophie Adenot, the second French woman in history to travel to space, said she’s pulled together a playlist to keep her company

An astronaut is using music streaming to keep her company on a long mission on the International Space Station.

Sophie Adenot, the second French woman in history to travel to space, said she’s pulled together a playlist of around 200 tunes on Deezer to help fill her capsule with top tunes over nine months on the craft.

The “Dream Astro” playlist includes bangers from David Guetta, Taylor Swift, Lola Young, Imagine Dragons, Shakira, Coldplay, and Sabrina Carpenter and she’s shared it with other users who want the same musical experience.

Sophie said: “Each crew member was invited to select three songs to listen to on the journey to the launch pad.

“I chose Happy for a very simple reason: it perfectly reflects my philosophy of life.

“I’m Good (Blue) brings an incredible sense of positive energy and feels especially fitting for that unique moment — a nighttime drive at around three in the morning.

“And finally, Valhalla Calling, performed by one of my favorite bands, is a version that still gives me chills.

“It’s the song I listened to at the start of every extravehicular activity training session. For me, it truly represents a call to adventure.”

This is not the first time an astronaut has shared music from space on the streaming platform.

In 2021, Thomas Pesquet created the playlist “Space Vibes,” updating it daily from the ISS to share his musical favorites and emotions with listeners on Earth.

Sophie is an ESA astronaut and French engineer.

A graduate of ISAE-SUPAERO and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), she was the first French female helicopter test pilot and has logged more than 3,000 flight hours with the French Air and Space force and the French Defence Procurement Agency.

In November 2022, she was selected as a career astronaut by the ESA from more than 22,500 applicants.

Throughout the Epsilon mission, she will conduct scientific experiments aboard the ISS, test new technologies, and contribute to advancing space research.
