Coronation Street’s Toyah Battersby star Georgia Taylor celebrated her birthday on Thursday 26 February, leaving fans amazed

Coronation Street fans were left stunned upon learning the real age of Georgia Taylor, who plays Toyah Battersby on the show.

Georgia first graced the cobbles as Toyah in 1997 before departing the ITV soap in 2003. She made her return to Weatherfield as Toyah in 2016 and has been a mainstay ever since.

During her hiatus from Corrie between 2003 and 2016, Georgia featured in Life on Mars as Denise Williams, Casualty as Ruth Winters, and Law and Order: UK as Kate Barker.

On Thursday 26 February, Georgia marked her 46th birthday. Sharing on Instagram, the actress wrote: “Work birthdays are the best @coronationstreet”, revealing the cards, cakes, gifts and balloons her colleagues had surprised her with.

Soap enthusiasts also took to social media to celebrate Georgia’s birthday on a Coronation Street fan page. One user posted: “HAPPY 46TH BIRTHDAY WISHES TO GEORGIA HAVE A FANTASTIC DAY.”, reports the Mirror.

In response to the birthday wishes, one fan commented: “Wow 46 looking well, share my birthday”, whilst another added: “She doesn’t look that age! Pretty Lady!”. Other followers chimed in with: “Happy Birthday beautiful lady” and “Happy birthday Georgia beautiful lady and a great actress.”

This revelation comes after Coronation Street viewers were left astounded last summer when they discovered Georgia Taylor’s real name during an episode of the On the Sofa podcast.

During a discussion about filming a Corrie scene with Georgia, podcast host Ben Price, who plays Nick Tilsley, sparked confusion when he referred to the actress as Claire.

Reacting to the footage, one Corrie enthusiast remarked, “Who’s Claire? Toyah is played by Georgia Taylor.”

A second clarified: “Her real name is Claire x”, whilst a third exclaimed: “I had absolutely no idea!”.

Toyah actress Georgia was born Claire Jackson but changed her name due to its popularity when she joined the ITV soap in the late 1990s.

She previously told the Mirror: “It’s not that I planned this to happen. But when I started with Coronation Street I had to register with Equity, the actors’ union, and at the time there seemed to be a hell of a lot of Claires so I had to think of something else.”

Georgia added: “I couldn’t tell you where I got Georgia from, other than I liked it, but my grandad’s surname was Taylor and he passed away not long before I got the part.”
