The Heat descended into chaos as Michelin Star chef Jean-Christophe Novelli kicked out all ten chefs from the kitchen mid-service
ITV’s latest series has descended into turmoil with friction mounting and heat escalating in the kitchen, just three episodes in.
Fronted by Olivia Attwood, the fresh culinary show, The Heat, follows ten aspiring chefs working in a high-end Barcelona restaurant under the supervision of Michelin Star chef Jean-Christophe Novelli.
The ambitious participants confront the daily task of running the restaurant to impress Jean-Christophe. Yet it’s not solely their cooking abilities being examined, as cameras keep rolling well beyond kitchen closing time, documenting their downtime activities.
Wednesday’s (February 25) episode saw unexpected friction simmering between the chefs as both Seren and Kat fell for the same man. Tonight’s edition (February 26) will witness matters erupting as a sneak preview showed the chefs abandoning the kitchen, despite diners awaiting their meals.
In an exclusive glimpse shown following Wednesday’s programme, head chef Djordje can be spotted overseeing the kitchen. Yet matters quickly deteriorate when he informs Jean-Christophe that patrons would need to wait “five minutes”, reports OK!
Jean-Christophe erupts in response: “It’s been 45 minutes.” In further dramatic footage, Jean-Christophe is heard shouting: “All of you, please get out of that kitchen.”
With all ten chefs abandoning the kitchen, leaving a restaurant packed with hungry diners, Jean-Christophe swiftly shifts his focus to those awaiting their meals. He continues: “I am humiliated, I feel bad like I’ve let you down, I’m so sorry.”
The acclaimed chef can then be witnessed departing the kitchen, visibly exasperated. But what occurred for tensions to reach breaking point?
Audiences can catch tonight’s episode at 9pm on ITV2. The third instalment is also available to watch on ITVX right now, for those unwilling to wait.
ITV’s synopsis for the fresh series hints: “These young hopefuls will quickly realise that no-one’s place is secure in this fierce culinary contest, as they consistently battle it out in a bid to climb the kitchen ranks.
“Promotions, demotions, power plays, sackings and shock decisions throughout the series are sure to keep the contenders on their toes – every service is a chance to soar or sink.”
Presenter Olivia Attwood had earlier promised abundant drama and mayhem. However, as a supportive adviser to participants, the celebrity revealed she’ll be drawing upon her 2017 Love Island stint which provides her with a “unique perspective” on existence under perpetual observation.
She had previously commented: “I was nervous. But I know what it feels like when you go on to a reality show, and you know some things, but you know there’s going to be surprises.
“I think it gives me a unique perspective, which I’m really grateful for. I would say to anyone actually going on reality shows, or competition shows, that you have to just kind of give yourself to the process. Because you’re in it now, so you might as well just jump in with both feet”.
The Heat continues on ITV2 and ITVX tonight at 9pm.
