A La Liga star lashed out at an opponent during a bizarre moment on Saturday when Getafe’s Abdel Abqar appeared to grab Alexander Sorloth’s private parts

A La Liga star lashed out after he seemingly had his nether regions grabbed by an opponent on Saturday afternoon.

Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth was left less than impressed with Getafe’s Abdel Abqar after the bizarre incident. In footage that has emerged on social media, the defender is seen grabbing Sorloth’s private parts.

And the former Crystal Palace striker wasn’t going to let it slide, as he grabbed Abqar by the arm and dragged him down to the ground. Referee Miguel Angel Ortiz halted play after being alerted by VAR to a potential sending-off offence, causing several minutes of confusion.

The confusion was caused due to the timing of the stoppage, with many fans believing VAR were checking a challenge between Nahuel Molina and Mauro Arambarri.

After reviewing the footage, the referee issued Abqar a straight red card for unsportsmanlike behaviour, while Sorloth received a yellow card for his reaction.

And as the footage emerged on social media, fans were quick to comment on the incident: “Has to be a ban right? That is disgraceful.”

“Why’s he acting surprised like he’s innocent,” a second posted. As a third said: “Should have punched him actually…”

“This is great reffing! So many would’ve focused on the reaction to the point they dismiss what led to it but ref got this spot on,” a fourth shared. And another added: “Red card for a hand ball, brutal that…”

Atleti ran out 1-0 winners against Getafe, who are notoriously tough to play against. The result means Diego Simeone’s side sit third in the La Liga table with 57 points.

However, they have quite a but of catching up to do if they hope to pip Spain’s big two to the title with Real Madrid in second, six points ahead, and Barcelona leading the way a further four points clear.
