EastEnders star Michelle Collins has been forced to use a wheelchair and crutches after suffering a painful knee injury over Easter weekend when she fell trying to stop her dog bolting
Legendary EastEnders actress Michelle Collins was left unable to walk properly after sustaining a dreadful knee injury. The star revealed that she spent her Easter Weekend in hospital after “bashing” her knee.
The star, who portrays Cindy Beale on EastEnders, posted on Instagram on 7 April with pictures from the previous weekend. In her photo collection, she displayed the waiting room of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, herself using crutches with a medical support around her knee, plus a close-up of her leg in the brace and an image where she was seated in a wheelchair.
Michelle explained in her caption how the accident occurred. She detailed that she was attempting to prevent her dog from escaping the house: “Fell over trying to stop Peggy bolting out the door while staying with friends in Norfolk bashed my knee, cuts and bruises.”
She mentioned that she appreciated the treatment she received and was disappointed to discover that the hospital was poorly rated in the league table. “Staff were great, efficient, kind despite apparently very low on hospital league table. I would never have known from the service I got.
“Seems so unfair to label a hospital like this. Not great for morale as one of the lovely nurses said.
“Also went to my local hospital @Finchleymemorialhospital who were great too! So lucky to have them so near me. Happy Easter xx Sitting down scenes this week ! @bbceastenders.” Fans flooded the comments to offer Michelle their support.
“Omg darling, so sorry. Sending all love,” one fan wrote. Another commented: “Omg get better soon lovely.”, reports the Mirror.
A third chimed in: “Oh no… take care Michelle and I hope the healing process is as quick as it can be.” Similarly, her co-star Balvinder Sopal, who portrays Suki Panesar, expressed: “Oh love!” She added a heart emoji.
Michelle’s EastEnders character Cindy has found herself in hospital a few times since her return to the soap. Two Christmases ago, she narrowly escaped death after being struck on the head with a shovel.
In February 2025, it was unveiled that her former mother-in-law Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) was the one who hit her due to her disdain for how Cindy treated Kathy’s son Ian (Adam Woodyatt).
Cindy landed in hospital again in late 2025, when Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) pushed her down the stairs of the Prince Albert. Cindy had discovered Jasmine wasn’t being truthful about her past and confronted her, leading a desperate Jasmine to push her in an attempt to escape. Cindy was left bleeding on the floor.
Cindy is a legendary EastEnders villain. She has been in the soap intermittently since 1988 and has been involved in numerous dramatic storylines, including hiring a hitman to murder Ian, faking her own death in prison, maintaining a secret family under the pseudonym of Rose Knight and causing the Queen Vic to explode.
