Loose Women star Ruth Langsford is said to be fighting her instincts to run to the bedside of her ex-husband Eamonn Holmes, who was hospitalised after the stroke
Ruth Langsford has reportedly been left feeling “bereft and helpless” after her ex-husband Eamonn Holmes suffered a stroke.
The 66-year-old GB News host was rushed to hospital on Tuesday (April 7) last week after suffering a stroke. The channel said he was “taken ill last week” and is now recovering in hospital and “responding well to treatment”.
But it’s understood Ruth, also 66, has been distressed by Eamonn’s health scare and has been wanting to visit him in hospital. A source told Daily Mail: “Ruth is feeling pretty bereft and helpless, her instincts are to run to his bedside or call him on the phone but then she’s reminded she can’t do that. He has Katie now who has been stuck by his bedside and praying for his recovery.”
It’s said Ruth has being kept updated on her ex-husband’s condition by their 24-year-old son Jack, who has a strained relationship with his father. The source added: “It’s been very sad for her – almost like mourning the split all over again.
“She has been really angry and hurt by Eamonn but this week things changed and with him being so ill she parked those negative feelings and her instincts are to want to help him get better.
“She’s having to forcibly stand back and do nothing which has been really against what she wants to do. Ruth is naturally a very caring and nurturing person so she’s very out of sorts with this news.” Daily Star has contacted Ruth’s representatives for comment.
Ruth and Eamonn announced their separation back in May 2024 after 27 years together and 14 years of marriage. Eamonn is now with girlfriend Katie Alexander, 44.
Eamonn has since spoken out following the stroke. He wrote on Instagram: “As my beautiful Granddaughters put it so well – I will do my best to get well SOON. Thank you for all of your many many good wishes, they give me strength.”
Eamonn’s son Declan, 37, said the stroke had come “as a real shock” to the family and thanked those who had shown their support. He added: “We’d really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it [sic], and what lies ahead, but thank you again for for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family.”
Eamonn had been due to return to GB News Breakfast, which he co-hosts with Ellie Costello, this week after some time on annual leave. Alex Armstrong has stepped in to cover Eamonn in the meantime.
