Eileen Grimshaw left Coronation Street for pastures new last year, but in upcoming scenes, she will learn of her son Todd’s harrowing abuse
Coronation Street’s Eileen Grimshaw will be left feeling “livid” when her son Todd finally reveals the abuse he’s endured with his ex-partner, Theo Silverton.
Todd and Theo’s relationship has faced its fair share of challenges from the very beginning, as Theo was already married when they first met. But although they seemed to get through their initial hurdles, Theo’s behaviour became increasingly dark once he moved into Todd’s flat.
Not long after, it became evident to viewers that Theo was abusing Todd, with the abuse later turning physical.
After months of turmoil, in recent scenes, Todd finally managed to escape Theo’s wrath and reported him to the police. Later, Todd was admitted to the hospital for further care.
In the episode on Friday, April 17, which is now available on ITVX, Todd readjusts to life on the Street after leaving the hospital and he decides it’s time to reach out to his mum. Todd returns to No.11, where he’s supported by George Shuttleworth, Christina Boyd and Mary Taylor.
Finding it too difficult to go back to the flat where Theo abused him for months, he gathers a few of his things and chooses to stay at his old family home for the time being.
While at the house, Todd tells his loved ones, “I should give mum a call and fill her in on what’s been going on.”
Todd later returns with an update on Eileen’s response. He said: “She’s livid. She wants to get a flight, tear him limb from limb. Trust me, she would only make things worse.”
Eileen, played by the iconic Sue Cleaver, left the cobbles last year to assist her eldest son, Jason Grimshaw, with his business in sunny Thailand.
Next week, in upcoming scenes, Todd decides to fly out to join her and Jason in Thailand for a while. But with Theo still lurking, Todd’s escape may prove difficult.
Actress Sue was a long serving member on the ITV soap, having played Eileen for an incredible 25 years.
At the time of her departure, Sue said: “I said very much that I would like Eileen to go off to pastures new, to mirror what I’m doing in a sense. I just think it’s time for a change.
“So it was perfect. I’m so happy with the ending. I was so humbled by it and the way it had been written and what it is. I felt very grateful to have such a wonderful ending written. It seemed very, very apt.”
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1.
