Noel and Liam Gallagher “could be the intermediaries” for a proper New Order reunion with Peter Hook at the Rock &. Rock Hall Of Fame says the bassist
Oasis could help fellow Manchester icons New Order get back together with founding member Peter Hook.
Bassist Hook parted company with the rest of the band in 2007 due creative and financial disputes. However, he is in talks to perform live at Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame where New Order and Joy Division will be inducted as a single act.
Now Liam and Noel Gallagher, friends with all members of New Order, “could be the intermediaries” for a proper New Order reunion with Hooky on bass.
New Order – fronted by Bernard Sumner – have carried on performing without Hook since 2011, but he now confirmed he is “speaking with” Hall Of Fame producers about playing at the event even if the rest of New Order aren’t.
The only people able to get them talking again could be Oasis according to Hook: “If Bernard [Sumner] pops his head around and goes, ‘Hey Hooky, sorry about that eight-year legal battle that cost you six years’ wages. I’m really sorry about it. We should maybe have just had a chat about it’.
“So you never know, dear. Life is full of surprises. I’m sure that could be a lovely one. Let’s face it, you couldn’t have better mentors than Liam and Noel.”
Hook told Rolling Stone: “Maybe Liam and Noel could be the intermediaries that you’re looking for. They might be like, ‘OK you two. Let’s shake hands and get up there and play ‘Transmission’, ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’, and ‘Blue Monday.’”
However, Hook is still angry with everything that happened and believes a truce is unlikely. He told Billboard: “What they did in 2011 was, frankly, disgusting, and I can’t forgive it … so I won’t be borrowing their ball, shall we say, for any kind of game.”
He continued: “I still do think it’s a travesty they use the New Order name when they are not New Order. They haven’t said they’re going; I have no idea, to be honest. I am gonna go, definitely. I’m looking forward to it.
“It’s a dreadful shame, it really is – especially when you get to our age, when you realise that road (ahead) is looking a lot bloody shorter than that road (behind), and you should show it respect. We’ve just been acting like petulant, spoiled children which, sadly, has diminished the way that people look at you, I think”.
The rest of New Order are thrilled to have been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
They wrote: “Thank you to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. From our beginnings as Joy Division to the evolving journey of New Order, this accolade reflects the resilience across nearly five decades that has defined our path alongside our fans, our collaborators and those sadly no longer with us.
“Also to everyone who has listened, supported and continued to carry our music forward. Not bad for a couple of bands that were never entirely sure what they were doing.”
Six British acts including Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Oasis, Billy Idol and Sade will be inducted this year.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2026 induction ceremony takes place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday November 14.
