Gunshots were reportedly heard at the annual White House correspondents’ dinner with president Trump being escorted out by members of the secret service as others took shelter
President Donald Trump was evacuated from the White House correspondents’ dinner after gun shots were heard.
The US President was attending the annual dinner on Saturday, April 25 when the commotion broke out.
The secret service rushed in and escorted the president out as they called “stay down, stay down” after loud bangs were heard.
Other top officials were also rushed out of the building while attendees crouched down.
Chaos erupted inside the ballroom as guests took shelter.
According to a security official at the event, seven to eight gun shots were fired.
Trump has given an update on Truth Social saying that the gunman has been ‘apprehended’.
He said: “Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely.
“The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we “LET THE SHOW GO ON” but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement.
“They will make a decision shortly. Regardless of that decision, the evening will be much different than planned, and we’ll just, plain, have to do it again.”
