Paddy Dingle’s had a dramatic few months on Emmerdale but the soap legend could be set for a prison exit

Emmerdale spoilers have teased Paddy Kirk’s future and it’s not looking good.

Paddy (Dominic Brunt) joined the ITV soap way back in 1997, playing the loveable vet. And it didn’t take him long to become one of the show’s most iconic and adored characters.

As Paddy, Dominic has been involved in several big storylines over the years. From his affairs to the heartbreaking loss of his child, Paddy’s time in the Dales has not been short of drama.

Especially at the moment, as in January, he helped cover up the murder of Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) after his dad Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) murdered him.

Paddy ended up confessing to his involvement in the ordeal, resulting in him, and Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle), being charged with perverting the course of justice.

Since then, Paddy has been left on edge as he could be set for a prison sentence, as well as his dad Bear who’s being held in custody on remand.

And in Monday’s episode (April 27), Paddy’s daughter Eve was upset by gossip about Paddy’s arrest, leading Paddy to bravely tell her he may go to prison for helping her Grandad.

A heartbroken Eve begged him not to leave. And spoilers for the rest of the week confirm that things only get worse for Paddy as Mandy, witnessing Paddy’s distress, impulsively suggests letting Bear take the blame, disgusting Paddy who storms out. Mandy finds him, they reconcile, and despite their fear about the impending trial, Mandy firmly commits to Paddy.

During his visit to the prison, Paddy tries to comfort an anxious Bear who is spiralling about the bank account that the police found. They are both shocked to see Simo, whom Bear thought had been murdered. Paddy hopes Simo will testify for Bear.

Outside the prison, Paddy pleads with Simo, but Simo refuses. While Simo admits Bear doesn’t deserve prison, he fears the impact on his own mental health. With the trial ahead, Paddy is left worrying. Paddy is not optimistic as he looks out over the village worried about what the future will bring..

Overwhelmed, alone, Paddy stands in the doorway to Tenants and takes a good look at the village he has called home for decades, wondering whether tonight will be his last night there.

What’s more, fans are also concerned that the soap could be bidding farewell to Paddy after almost 30 years. Writing on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, one person said: “That was such a sad scene between Paddy and Eve, really hope he doesn’t get sent down.” Another added: “I think he will but for a short time. I can’t see him being gone for long.” A third penned: “Yeah I think that as well”.

Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX
