‘Singing’ bakery van driver interrupted as 221-passenger plane smashes into vehicle

Horrifying footage captured the moment a whistling bakery van driver glanced upwards before a huge passenger plane’s wheel smashed into his windscreen, sending glass flying everywhere

Insane dashcam footage shows the scary moment a plane struck a bakery truck while on the motorway.

The chastening clip shows the relaxed driver belting out a tune while driving on the New Jersey Turnpike yesterday afternoon (May 3). Suddenly, the driver– who is an employee of the Baltimore-based H&S Bakery – stops singing and the whistling sound of the incoming United Airlines Flight 169 can be heard as the plane comes into land at Newark Airport.

The driver is seen glancing up quickly as one of the jet’s wheels makes impact with the truck’s window – sending glass flying. Thankfully the driver – who was not identified – only suffered a few small cuts after the harrowing ordeal and was treated for minor injuries in a local hospital, according to KATV.

“To me, that everybody on that plane, everybody and the driver, God was looking after them, there’s no doubt,” said Chuck Paterakis, co-principal at H&S Bakery. “If we did that scenario again, I don’t know if anybody could’ve survived that.”

The Boeing aircraft, which had made its way from Venice, Italy, went on to land safely on Runway 29 at the airport, which runs perpendicular to the highway.

Incoming planes typically fly over the busy motorway at a low altitude – just feet above passing cars – before touching down. None of the 221 passengers or 10 crew members on the flight were injured, the airline said.

In a separate incident late last year, a horrifying moment was caught on camera as a small plane appeared to “drop out of the sky” before smashing into a car on a packed Florida motorway, leaving a woman injured during the rush-hour chaos.

Shocking dashcam footage captured the “fixed-wing multi-engine aircraft” plunging onto the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Cocoa, Florida, at around 5:45pm on Monday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The pilot had been attempting an emergency landing when the plane suddenly dived into traffic.
