Fans of ITV entertainment show Britain’s Got Talent think there needs to be a big change
Britain’s Got Talent viewers are fuming that the ITV show’s golden buzzer rule needs to be dropped.
The programme is at the semi-final stage, with judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and KSI watching as the hopefuls who got through the audition rounds try to make it into the final. For each of the semis, one of the judges is given the golden buzzer power, meaning they can send one act straight into the final. Another act is then voted through by the public.
Amanda and Alesha have both had their turn at the buzzer, and in Saturday’s live show, the power was handed to KSI. He waited until almost all of the acts had performed, before pushing it for fire-eater Liwei Yang.
However, viewers have claimed the system doesn’t work, saying that all the acts should get to perform before the buzzer is pushed so the judge can see them all before making a decision. Others complained that the studio audience clamour for most acts to be given the buzzer.
“Can #BGT just axe the golden buzzer, it has become the most irritating addition to this show,” one viewer posted on X.
Another agreed: “Golden buzzer seriously needs to be [left] until everyone is on stage for the final results. As in, after everyone has performed.”
Someone else wrote on the platform, which was formerly Twitter: “That studio golden buzzer needs to go, take it back to how it used to be, highest vote through then the judges pick between the other 2.”
“I’m all for shaking up the format, but this ‘Live Golden Buzzer’ during the semi-finals feels so unfair to the acts performing later,” said someone else.
“The public vote is basically being ignored before half the show is over!”
“Are the audience gonna shout press the buzzer for every single act?” asked another viewer.
“What I hate about the #BGT live golden buzzer is that the judges sometimes make it so damn obvious on who they are giving it to,” someone else remarked.
Another unimpressed viewer commented: “The audience actually ruins the live shows now, taking the golden buzzer away would stop it. If they need to have it, it can be pressed at the end when they all come out stage and their names are read out.”
Britain’s Got Talent airs Saturdays at 7pm on ITV and ITVX.
