For years, Crissy Rock had the nation laughing thanks to her unforgettable role as Janey York in Benidorm. But behind the scenes, the comic’s personal life was filled with heartbreak and toxic relationships before she finally found happiness again.
The actress, 67, has been married three times before and admits she had almost given up on romance completely before meeting new husband Derek. “I never had a kiss on the gob for eight years,” she confessed. “Always just a little peck on the cheek.”
Crissy revealed one previous relationship left her emotionally shattered after unknowingly marrying what she described as a narcissist. “Oh, I got married to this fellow, unbeknownst to me, he was a narcissist,” she explained exclusively to Daily Star in collaboration with WhichBingo, the home of the best casino sites. “Absolutely wore me to the extent that I felt like ending it all for myself. It was so horrible.”
The turning point came after she drove six and a half hours through terrible weather to see him, only for him to dismiss her efforts with a brutal remark. “He said, ‘More fool you,’” she recalled. “And that was it. That was the cage opening and the bird flying off.”
The TV favourite also opened up about her difficult upbringing and the struggles she now discusses in her brutally honest live stage show. “I talk about my life and being abused, me and my brother being abused,” she said. “But it gets the laughing and the crying going at the same time.”
Speaking about her first marriage, Crissy revealed just how hard life once was for her. “When I got married the first time, it was a £1.10 silver wedding ring, half a pound of boiled ham and a Victoria sponge,” she laughed. “The best man was his probation officer.”
Everything changed when Derek entered her life through mutual friends. Although Crissy initially tried to avoid falling for him, the pair quickly became inseparable. “He makes me laugh and I hadn’t laughed for a long time,” she admitted.
Their romance was sealed after one unexpected kiss on a night out. “I thought he was going for the cheek,” she laughed. “But he kissed me on the gob. I was gone.”
Now Crissy says she is happier than she has been in years. “He is absolutely like my best friend,” she smiled. “He just spoils me to death because he says I deserve it.”
Away from her love life, the actress is enjoying huge success with her live show and admitted she would happily return to TV if the right offer came along.
“I’d love Benidorm to come back and I’d love to be part of it,” she said. “Never say never.”
