A new startup has put out a call for men willing to act as beta testers for its erotic AI chatbot – and the pay is very competitive
The AI revolution has already had a number of significant effects on society. But among the more surprising changes is the dramatic rise in people signing up for a relationship with an AI-simulated “girlfriend.”
The numbers are staggering. Market leaders Character.AI say they’ve registered 50 million downloads while rivals Candy AI and OurDream AI have logged 30 and 36 million downloads respectively.
But while all of these companies charge a subscription fee for premium features such as has your simulated “girlfriend” remembering details from previous conversations, there’s one new startup that promises to pay you. It comes after we revealed how “lonely” lads are turning to AI girlfriends as they’re so rubbish at speaking to real women.
Joi AI has announced that it will be hiring 10 paid “masturbation consultants” to test its AI-guided masturbation feature – keeping a diary of how the experience affects stress, sleep, mood, and confidence.
The successful applicants’ salary will be $2,000 (just under £1,500) a month. Speaking to tech website Decrypt, Joi AI Head of Brand and Communication Julie Levin insisted: “The role is real, and we’ve had great responses since the posting went live.”
She explained that participants in the trial would need to complete a questionnaire after every session, answering questions such as whether the AI’s voice seemed to fit the chosen mood, how immersive the experience was and various technical parameters such as download speed and lag time.
Julie explained: “Joi AI is focused on making AI companionship more immersive, personalized, and emotionally responsive.
“We’re innovating features like Daily Guided Masturbation to make AI a more intuitive part of people’s everyday wellness routines, not just a novelty experience.”
Meanwhile, Caroline Adams, who coaches men and women with PURE Dating App, said it’s “all too easy” for blokes these days to find love online.
“We are living in an era of mass convenience,” she told the Daily Star. “It’s unsurprising people now feel like they’re entitled to companionship, as they would an UberEats.
“Real relationships require patience, compromise, emotional regulation and the risk of rejection. But we are living in a society where everything is on demand, instantly accessible and customisable.”
