The girl band, now officially a trio, had reunited to perform a medley of hits at the American Music Awards, but left fans stunned as they stretched into tight-fit outfits
The Pussycat Dolls have put on a racy display for fans as they returned for their first TV performance in six years. The band have officially reunited, although only now as a trio.
Singers Nicole Scherzinger, Kimberly Wyatt and Ashley Roberts put on a huge show as they entertained at the American Music Awards earlier this week. The girls sang some of the group’s biggest hits, including chart toppers When I Grow Up, Don’t Cha and Buttons.
The group performed together with legendary rapper Busta Rhymes, leaving people in the room stunned with their delivery. But their outfits equally stole the show as they slipped into hot red PVC ensembles for the gig.
The girls put on a huge show for the audience, while wearing latex outfits that clung to their bodies, with large lingerie-like prints scrawled across the red. This also included huge latex boots that stuck hard to the singers.
Fans were won over by the performance, despite the Pussycat Dolls having to cancel the US tour earlier this month due to poor ticket sales. Instead, the girls will now perform a one-time show in Los Angeles before heading to Europe for a full-blown tour.
Nicole, Ashley and Kimberly opted in to reunite the band, without former members Carmit Bachar, Jessica Sutta and Melody Thornton. During the band’s initial run, allegations had been made that Nicole had been given too many lines in the band’s songs, with even Ashley and Kimberly saying they worked in Nicole’s shadow.
In a 2009 interview, Kimberly said at the time: “Every video and stage performance that we’ve done, Nicole has been our leader. I wasn’t in videos like I wanted and wasn’t seen in the way I was hoping, which has been the same for all the other girls too.”
Ashley would say in an interview in 2014 with the Independent that people in the band “were always told it was very much Nicole’s project”, adding: “We were the football team, and [Nicole] was the quarterback. You know, we weren’t allowed to talk in interviews. We weren’t even allowed in the studio sometimes.”
However, it seems the bad blood has passed between the girls, with the trio now releasing “Club Song”, their first track in six years. But the Pussycat Dolls were not the only act to reunite on stage during the award ceremony.
Hitmakers the Black Eyed Peas also had a shocking reunion on stage, joined by lead singer Fergie, who left the band in 2018. The band were able to get together to accept the gong for Throwback Song of the year, thanks to their track Rock That Body.
The big winners of the night, however, were K-pop titans BTS, nabbing three awards. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift, who had been dominating charts, failed to win a single category.
