EXCLUSIVE: Love Island’s Mica Harris has revealed the incredible moment she met Rihanna through her Prime Minister aunt and admitted she was secretly ‘fangirling’ the whole time
Love Island hopeful Mica Amor has revealed she once came face to face with global superstar Rihanna thanks to an incredible family connection.
The 21-year-old beauty, who is heading into the Love Island villa this summer, admitted she was left completely starstruck after unexpectedly meeting the chart topping singer while visiting family in Barbados. Mica, whose aunt is Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley, said she had no idea she was about to meet one of the world’s biggest music stars when she was picked up by her aunt.
Speaking exclusively ahead of entering the villa, Mica recalled: “I have met Rihanna. It was kind of a crazy story. Rihanna was staying at a house two doors down from my grandparents’ house.”
She continued: “My auntie Mia picked me up and said we were going to visit Granny and Grandad. I just threw on random clothes because I thought I was seeing my grandparents.”
But things quickly took an unexpected turn. “We pulled into this house and I was like, ‘Whose house is this?’ She said, ‘Surprise, you’re meeting Rihanna.'”
While Mica admitted she was thrilled, her first thought was not exactly about the superstar herself.
She laughed: “Obviously I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is crazy.’ But then I was thinking, ‘Oh my God, why do I look like this right now?’ I would have loved more time to prepare.”
Fortunately, the encounter lived up to every expectation. Mica gushed: “She’s the loveliest person. She’s just the people’s princess. She’s amazing.”
The reality star also revealed Rihanna embraces her Bajan roots whenever she returns home. “It’s so nice seeing her back in Barbados. She goes fully Bajan again. Everything. It’s really cute.”
Despite their connection through family friends, Mica admits she still turned into a full blown fan when she met the singer.
“I was trying to be super chill but I was definitely fangirling,” she confessed. “She smells so nice and she’s just so gorgeous and amazing in person. It’s crazy.”
Mica is now hoping Rihanna might even tune in when Love Island returns.
Asked if the superstar could be watching her this summer, she replied: “Oh my gosh, I hope so. If she did, I would die. That would be amazing.”
While she stopped short of calling Rihanna a family friend, Mica revealed the singer remains close to her aunt.
“I wouldn’t call her a family friend, but her and my auntie are very close. Hopefully I get to meet her again.”
The ITV will enter the Love Island villa next week hoping to find romance, but she may already have one of the most impressive celebrity stories of this year’s cast.
Love Island starts on Monday 1st June on ITV2 and ITVX
