A 19-year-old has been taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm after the Liverpool Toxteth shooting incident, with police launching a manhunt and house-to-house enquiries in the area
A teenager was found collapsed in the street after being shot in the arm, leading to a heavy police presence in Liverpool on Wednesday, June 3.
Police were summoned to Carlingford Close, just off Selbourne Street, in the Toxteth area, shortly after 8.40pm when a 19 year old lad was reportedly shot in the arm. The force confirmed that the incident is believed to have occurred in the Upper Parliament Street area.
The teen was swiftly taken to hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment for his injury, which is not considered life-threatening.
Locals painted a vivid picture of the scene as police and paramedics rushed to aid the man who was found collapsed at the corner of Carlingford Close with a gunshot wound to his arm.
One resident told the ECHO: “I heard a bang, it was like a firework and just one, then the police came racing up and down the street, there was loads of them.
“There was a lad on the door by the lamppost [on the corner of Carlingford Close]. I think his mum arrived and she just broke down.”
Another neighbour alleged that police had visited Carlingford Close earlier that day, and that the victim had seemingly tried to escape the scene before collapsing.
A police helicopter was reportedly seen circling above as officers initially arrived at the scene, with two cordons being set up.
The first cordon encompassed a portion of Selbourne Street around Carlingford Close. The second cordon included part of Upper Parliament Street, the Merseyside Caribbean Centre and a section of Selbourne Street running behind the centre.
Scientific support officers were observed working within the cordon just before 11pm.
An investigation is underway, with house-to-house enquiries and CCTV checks being carried out across the neighbouring area.
Detective Inspector Jay Boardman stated: “We are in the very early stages of this investigation and we are seeking witnesses and CCTV and Ring doorbell footage to piece together what has happened.
“Firearms and the reckless people who choose to carry and use them have no place on the streets of Merseyside and we would ask for the public’s help to locate who is responsible and bring them to justice.”
