Prince Andrew was snapped behind the wheel of a car leaving his new home with a large purple bruise on his face – a royal insider has now issued a statement surrounding the disgraced duke’s injury
A royal insider has broken their silence surrounding the purple bruise which was spotted on the disgraced duke Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor earlier this week.
Concerns were raised when Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was seen sporting a large purple bruise on the right side of his face near his Sandringham residence. The beleaguered prince was photographed at the wheel as he departed from his new abode, Marsh Farm, on the King’s estate last Thursday. The King’s brother is not often spotted in public after a security breach on the estate the previous month.
During the incident, the disgraced royal had been strolling with the late Queen’s corgis near the Sandringham grounds when an individual unexpectedly approached him, causing alarm. How the King’s brother earned the bruise is currently unknown. According to reports, the sizeable purple bruise around his eye now is thought to stem from a “non-serious medical condition”.
In a recent development, a source close to the ex-royal informed the Daily Mail that the bruise was not a “cause for concern”. They stated there had been “no drama” but declined to provide further details due to medical confidentiality.
Andrew was apprehended on his 66th birthday in February and interrogated on suspicion of misconduct in public office. After spending more than 12 hours in police custody, he was released pending investigation.
The former Duke of York has refuted any allegations of misconduct. Following ongoing scandals linked to Andrew’s past association with Jeffrey Epstein, King Charles instructed him to vacate Royal Lodge, leading to Andrew forfeiting his royal titles, reports the Express. He has since relocated to Marsh Farm, a cottage situated on Sandringham, the King’s private estate in Norfolk.
This follows revelations that Andrew pocketed an undisclosed private income from subletting three properties on his Royal Lodge estate while paying a nominal rent. The subletting disclosures were amongst findings published in a National Audit Office (NAO) report examining the Royal Family’s residential property portfolio this week.
Former Liberal Democrat minister Norman Baker, an outspoken critic of royal finances, condemned the arrangement as “outrageous”.
He said: “It shows an absolute contempt for the taxpayer, not only that Andrew was able to have a peppercorn rent for a gigantic property, but then to make potentially millions on the side from subletting properties.”
He added: “The money should have gone to the Crown Estate, not into [his] pockets.”
