Love Island bombshell George Knight has spoken out about the real reason he quit
A former Love Island star has revealed the true reason he left the show less than a week into his stay in the Villa.
It was confirmed at the end of last week that professional footballer George Knight had chosen to return home. He had only arrived as a bombshell a few days earlier, the morning after the original line-up moved into the Villa.
He was joined by Yasmin as the pair were greeted by host Maya Jama. Moreover, they were given the task of deciding who should be the first to be dumped from the Villa.
The 28 year old had a hectic few days as he chose Samraj to dump, only for him to return hours later. Then he grew increasingly close to Robyn, only to be picked by Mica during the first recoupling.
Eventually, he decided to leave the show after less than a week. He cited ‘personal reasons’ for his surprising exit which was broadcast during an episode aired earlier this week, reports OK!
Previously, George took to Instagram to clarify his decision, posting: “Family comes first, always.” He added: “Leaving the Love Island villa was a decision made in order to be with my family. Out of respect for them, I’d prefer not to go into any further detail.”
Now, he has spoken out even more in his first interview since leaving the show. Appearing as a guest on The Sun’s Showbiz Fix podcast, he described it’s been a “bit of a whirlwind” since leaving the show as well as “overwhelming” and “nuts”.
George also disclosed in greater detail the sequence of events that led to his exit. He explains he was summoned for a conversation in the beach hut and despite expecting it would be the standard questions featured in numerous episodes, he was instead instructed to meet a producer at the Villa’s front entrance.
It transpired they had a message from his family and he was allowed a phone call with his parents. He said: “It is all very private. But it was a health concern with a member of the immediate family.
“They said they felt like they weren’t doing their role as a parent if they didn’t let me know. And with what was said, I just felt like it was the right thing to come home.”
George reveals that he was conscious of the health issues before entering the Villa but at that point, it wasn’t such a worry that he thought there was a strong likelihood he would need to leave early.
He added that the priority would always be his family and there was no question about his final decision. George also states that conspiracy theories put forward by fans, such as a secret message his family would send if he wasn’t coming across well on TV is “a load of nonsense.”
Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX
