A man in his 40s and an 11-year-old boy were taken to hospital in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on Tuesday evening following a major emergency response to a suspected poisoning involving an unknown substance

An inquiry is underway to determine if a man and a boy, who were rushed to hospital in Tameside, were accidentally poisoned.

On Tuesday evening (June 9), emergency services descended upon Carter Street in Flowery Field, Hyde. Greater Manchester Police reported being called to the scene at 8:10pm due to concerns for the pair’s welfare. According to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), the incident two casualties affected by an unknown substance. Fire crews made the scene safe and remained at scene just over two hours.

A significant emergency response was witnessed, with police, paramedics, and firefighters attending the scene. A man in his 40s and an 11-year-old boy were taken to hospital from the location.

The incident is believed to be under investigation as a potential case of accidental poisoning, reports the Manchester Evening News. A spokesperson for GMFRS stated: “At around 8:25pm on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, several appliances from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended an incident at Carter Street, Hyde.

“The incident involved two casualties affected by an unknown substance. Fire crews made the scene safe and remained at the scene for just over two hours.”

Meanwhile, police have taken a schoolgirl into custody and an investigation is underway after three people were injured at a school in north Manchester.

Officers were called to reports of a stabbing at Co-op Academy on Plant Hill Road, Blackley, on Tuesday, June 9. Staff were quick to detain a girl to ensure no further harm came to pupils or staff, and officers arrived shortly afterwards.

A 14-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and remains in custody for questioning at this time. Police said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

Three people were injured during the incident – a 14-year-old schoolgirl, a 14-year-old schoolboy and a 27-year-old male member of staff. All were taken to hospital however injuries are thankfully not believed to be serious, and all are stable at this time.

The member of staff is reported to be a science teacher. The Sun reports he was allegedly stabbed in the neck as he tried to wrestle a knife from a student while she attacked her two pupils. A 14-year-old schoolgirl has injuries to the shoulder. A 14-year-old schoolboy has an injury to the ear.

One girl reportedly screamed: “I’ve been stabbed, I’ve been stabbed” as she fled.
