A bloke was hospitalised with a serious gut issue after a pill meant to help him gain weight left him dizzy, farting and urinating constantly, and 6.5kg lighter

A bloke who forked out more than a grand on bulking supplements was left red-faced after he ended up losing 6.5kg in a month, despite the products promising to increase his weight.

The supplements, which had been advertised by a popular fitness influencer named Chen, cost Liu, from Shanghai in China, the equivalent of £1,100, and left him feeling dizzy, nauseous, and urinating constantly.

Truck driver Liu, who weighed 63kg before taking them, got in contact with influencer Chen after seeing her talk about the miracle product. The pair set up a live-streaming session, in which Liu was told that, as well as gaining weight, the supplements would give him a “42 per cent improvement in overall health”, according to the South China Morning Post.

The figure, somewhat unsurprisingly, turned out to be totally bogus, with the weird pills leaving the unlucky bloke feeling worse and weighing less.

Liu says that, during the consultation, Chen analysed his tongue, and told him that it showed symptoms of both “excessive internal heat” and a “cold body” too.

The dodgy health guru then created an “adjustment plan” for him to follow, which included an initial 4000 yuan (£440) payment for the supplements.

After several days of following the regime, Liu noticed he was actually losing weight, despite hoping for the exact opposite. He also says that he felt dizzy, kept farting and constantly needed the toilet.

Liu, who clearly at this point had not learnt his lesson, says that he went to Chen to tell her about the worrying side effects, but was persuaded to spend another load of cash on even more health products, this time designed to help “expel toxins” from the body.

Just like the first round of treatment, these pills not only did not help, but seemingly worsened Liu’s condition and in April he was admitted to hospital with chronic gastritis.

Concerned medical staff analysed the miracle products Liu had been taking, only to find they were essentially just fibre supplements, which when consumed in large quantities can play havoc with the gut and cause weight loss.

Liu said he kept losing weight even after a month of treatment.

He later filed a complaint with the Songjiang District Health Supervision Station, claiming Chen was practising medicine without proper authorisation. Officials are investigating whether Chen is a licensed medical practitioner.
