A man in his 70s has tragically lost his life after being hit by a Luas tram. The happened on Marlborough Street just after 7pm this evening.
The area is currently sealed off and Luas green line services have been halted in the vicinity. Gardai are now urging any witnesses to the incident to step forward. They are particularly keen to hear from individuals with dash-cam or camera footage.
A garda spokesman informed Dublin Live: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic incident on Marlborough Street, Dublin 1, on Monday, 15th June 2026. Shortly after 7pm, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted after a pedestrian was struck by a Luas tram.
“The pedestrian, a male aged in his 70s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
“The local coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination. The scene is currently being examined and local traffic diversions are in place.”, reports Dublin Live.
“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward. Road users and pedestrians with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were in the area of Marlborough Street at the time of the incident are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on (01) 6668000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing.”
Meanwhile, a two-year-old boy is seriously injured and another two children are hurt after a car ploughed into a nursery playground. At approximately 9.54am on Monday, June 15, officers from Cheshire Police were called to reports of a crash at a nursery school on Vale Road in the Whitby area of Ellesmere Port.
Officers arrived at the scene alongside North West Ambulance Service and discovered that a car had driven through a fence and into the playground area of the nursery. Eyewitnesses reported seeing two ambulances, an air ambulance, a fire engine and four police vehicles, including an armed response vehicle at the scene.
Partou Sunny Days Nursery and Pre-school confirmed they were dealing with an “extremely distressing incident.” A 63-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At around 9.54am on Monday 15 June, officers responded to reports of a collision at a nursery school on Vale Road in the Whitby area of the town.
“Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service and found that a car had driven through a fence and into the playground area of the nursery.
“A two-year-old boy has sustained what are thought to be serious injuries and has been taken to hospital for further treatment. The child’s next of kin have been made aware.
“Two other children sustained minor injuries following the incident.Officers are currently on scene and are conducting a number of enquiries to fully establish the circumstances of what is believed to be an isolated incident. A 63-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.”
