Amandaland and Star Wars fave Peter Serafinowicz has been cast as Peeves the Poltergeist in HBO’s Harry Potter reboot
Funnyman Peter Serafinowicz has been cast as Peeves the Poltergeist in HBO’s Harry Potter reboot.
He will appear in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone where Peeves has already been at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for about 1000 years, and is known for causing mischief and chaos all over the school.
The late Rik Mayal had been intended to play the cheeky ghost in the original 2001 Potter movie, but he was cut due to time constraints and the fan-favourite character never reappeared.
Comedian Serafinowicz was recently seen in BBC’s hit sitcom Amandaland as well as hosting Netflix game show, Million Dollar Favourite.
The latest Harry Potter actor Dominic McLaughlin will have hands full dealing with Peeves who is a major nuisance to the Hogwarts students and staff, especially Argus Filch. He is best known for practical jokes, throwing things and generally getting students in trouble with their teachers.
A familiar face on screen – large and small – Serafinowicz famously voiced Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace way back in 1999 as well as fronting his own BBC show. Last year. he was in the live action How To Train Your Dragon.
Elsewhere The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy has joined the cast of The Lord of the Rings sequel, The Hunt for Gollum.
Directed by and starring Andy Serkis, who returns to play Gollum, Taylor-Joy will play Seren, a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm, who is described as “a trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil.”
The new film sees the return of Ian McKellen (as Gandalf), Elijah Wood (Frodo) and Lee Pace (King Thranduil), alongside newcomers Kate Winslet (Marigol), Jamie Dornan (Strider) and Leo Woodall (Halvard).
That film is due December 17, 2027.
Taylor-Joy is now part of three major movie franchises following her entry into the Mad Max saga last year in Furiosa.
She is also set to appear in the third Dune movie alongside Timothee Chalamet, the concluding part of the trilogy due in cinemas this December.
