Coronation Street fans are speculating about one character’s future on the cobbles after their comment.
Fans of Coronation Street have been voicing their growing concerns about what lies ahead for Betsy Swain after she was spotted revealing her intentions to quit Weatherfield in the most recent instalment of the enduring programme.
As devoted followers of the ITV soap will recall, the character made her debut on the cobbles in 2024 as Sabrina Adetiba’s pal, before it emerged that she is the daughter of now DS Lisa Connor-Swain.
She has subsequently become entangled in several of the soap’s most significant plotlines over recent years, with even more dramatic scenes on the horizon, having not only recently stumbled upon her neighbour’s corpse on her mum and Carla Connor’s wedding day, but it has also been disclosed that she’s destined to feature in an upcoming storyline involving Dylan Wilson.
This means audiences have been keeping a keen eye on the duo after actors Sydney Martin and Liam McCheyne, who portray Betsy and Liam, confirmed their involvement in a forthcoming ‘coming of age’ storyline, reports the Manchester Evening News.
During Monday’s (June 15) episode of Corrie, Betsy, Dylan and Brody Michaelis were spotted making their way to the Rovers Return. Sean Tully declined to serve them, knowing full well that Brody is underage.
Undaunted by the setback, the teenagers instead made their way to the precinct, having grabbed some tins and headed off to the shopping area.
However, when three intimidating youths approached and insisted they surrender the cans they had purchased, Betsy stood her ground.
She was taken aback when the lads brought up Mason Radcliffe, her ex-boyfriend, who tragically lost his life in a shocking knife crime incident last year. As they continued to provoke, Dylan stepped in, telling the gang to leave Betsy be.
Brody also stood up to them, suggesting they were “all bark and no bite”. However, this backfired as Brody urged Dylan and Betsy to flee, leading to a chase by the three lads.
Then, in Tuesday’s (June 16) follow-up episode, an emotional Betsy was seen confiding in Dylan, with the reminder of Mason’s tragic demise hitting her hard.
She discussed her plans to move on before revealing to her best friend, Lauren Bolton, that she had been offered a place at a fashion college in London.
She broke the news to Dylan, who then advised her to inform her mum, Lisa, and her stepmother, Carla Connor-Swain, about the move too.
These scenes played out in Friday’s (June 19) episode set in Weatherfield and while Carla was thrilled for her Underworld protege, Lisa was more cautious.
However, Corrie fans believe Lisa doesn’t need to fret over Betsy’s departure, as they suspect something far more worrying is looming.
One person on social media said: “Betsy saying ‘i love you both, to death’ made me feel two very different ways??? on one hand it was so cute but on the other hand, my brain went straight to them foreshadowing something DRASTIC.”
Another fan responded: “I did the exact same thing…feels slightly too optimistic about the future.” Someone else remarked: “Betsy saying ‘I love you both too death’ I smell another attempted murder this Christmas #swarla.”
A fourth chimed in with: “‘I love you both to death’ Na if we didn’t get life support Lisa in Corriedale then I forbid you to go down this route with Betsy Corrie #Swarla.”
